Lawton Public Schools (LPS) student Madison Muller was the winner of the Social Science: Division 3 at the fair earning the title of National Champion.

“I found my true passion through FFA,” Muller said. “Many of my family members were active in FFA and often told me stories of what a great organization it is.”

The fair saw several students showing off their knowledge of different agricultural subjects with topics stemming directly from the intersection of agriculture and the social sciences.

“For my project, I researched how labeling affects a consumer’s purchasing decision,” Muller said. “I was drawn to this specific topic, having been diagnosed with Crohn’s disease in 2019. Since then, I have become more aware of labels and wanted to look at how they affect other consumers. Through my project, I hope to educate producers on what consumers are looking for when comparing labels.”

Muller does not claim to have succeeded all on her own, however, stating that people who work hard and have a solid support system can accomplish anything.

“I’ve had the opportunity to work with Mr. Pete Dempsey, Ms. Courtney Miller, Mr. Chris Conway and Ms. Heaven Kern,” Muller said. “With their help, I have won state Agriscience Fair twice, been on the state winning Food Science team, the state runner up for Agricultural Communication and competed at Nationals twice.”

The work Muller has done to win this competition is indicative of a larger understanding of scientific principles relating to agriculture.

Join us in congratulating Madison Muller for her huge accomplishment!\r\n
